E – Fishing (The Strike): Drop anchor on your couch and fish the day away as you navigate some of North America’s most entertaining fishing hot spots. Featuring amazing gameplay, realistic physics, and authentic fishing gear used by the pros, The Strike is the most advanced and fun fishing game ever. E fishing = The Strike
When people think of the holiday gaming season, fishing titles are likely far from their minds. Yet here I sit with Bass Pro Shops: The Strikein my lap, complete with rod and reel controller. The Strike is a simulation fishing video game (Nintendo Wii and Xbox360), the likes of which have yet to be seen on this generation of consoles. It includes more fishing accoutrements than even the most diehard fisherman will know what to do with; it’s just too bad that the core design is as flawed as it is or we could’ve had the next SEGA Bass Fishing on our hands.
Product Features
• Fishing Rod Controller: Whether casting, jigging, setting the hook, or reeling a fish in, players will be amazed by the sensitivity and feedback their fishing rod controller provides.
• Four modes of entertaining and competitive gameplay. The Strike is perfect for quick and friendly competitions with up to 4 players.
•Ten of North America’s greatest lakes are depicted, so players can easily recognize key landmarks and find their favorite fishing spots.
•The Strike features a large variety of fresh water fish, including Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Walleye and more. Each lake contains a legendary fish of record proportions that will challenge even the best players.
•Players can tailor their equipment by going to the Bass Pro Shops in-game store to select lures, rods and reels. Players can also win new boats by winning tournaments.
The basic game design is simple. You begin by creating your character with a limited list of options and then decide whether you’ll play in arcade mode (easy) or Bass Pro mode (hard). When I first saw the two options for difficulty I assumed that the latter would limit your instruments when looking for and catching fish. On easy you have a fish finder, GPS and readouts for line tension and fish stamina. I was expecting these to be absent in pro mode but that’s not the case. It seemed like the only real change was the level of competition which was a disappointing realization.
Players feel like they are really casting into an expansive lake filled with fish using this extremely life-like fishing rod controller. Whether casting, jigging, setting the hook, or reeling a fish in, players will be amazed by the sensitivity and feedback their fishing rod controller provides
The Strike combines authentic environments based on real lakes, engaging gameplay with accurate fish and lure behaviors, and a highly interactive fishing pole controller that allows players an immersive fishing adventure. Players can enjoy 3 different game-play modes including Quick Fish, Career and Bass Pro Shops Invitational Tournament, or compete with friends in mini games like boat races and casting challenges. The lifelike fishing pole peripheral lets the player cast, jig, set the hook, and fight as if a real fish were on the other end of the line. The game takes players to some of North America’s most famous fishing hot spots and features eleven types of game fish including Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Striped Bass as well as Northern Pike and Muskie.
